During the course of the project, the SUMMIT staff conducted interviews with EU key personnel, practitioners and leading academics. The interviews and webcasts below shall disseminate insight knowledge about various aspects of EU politics in the European Council. The videos are freely accessible and can be distributed for non commercial teaching and study purposes.

The European Council gathers the heads of state or government of the EU countries who significantly influence EU decision-making activities in various ways. In this video, experts examine such decision-making activities from various perspectives: As former Italian prime minister, Dr Enrico Letta was Member of the European Council. Martin Selmayr is Head of Cabinet of the European Commission. Johannes Pollak and  Wolfgang Wessels are Professors for European Politics and discuss the legitimacy of decisions of the European Council and its legal basis.

Jim Cloos is Deputy Director-General for General and Institutional Policy/General Secretariat of the Council of the EU. In this interview he elaborates on the relationship of the European Council and the Council and gives examples how the two institutions work together.

It is often perceived that large Member States determine decisions in the European Union. However, decisions of the European Council require unanimity. The video therefore discusses whether or not small member states can use this veto power. Lenka Rovna and Ivo Slosarcik give insights from Czech perspectives.

Ian Begg is professorial research fellow at the London School of Economics. In this video he examines the European Council's during the Eurozone crisis and its interactions with the European Central Bank within this period.
